Obtaining qualifications will prove your abilities when working as a hotelier and in the workforce. Obtain as many qualifications as possible while you are a student to increase your strengths.
We also have an environment in place where students can take on additional challenges, such as speech contests and the HRS service competition.

HRS Service Competition
(Hotel and Restaurant Service Competition)

The HRS Service Competition is a competition for professional service people (under 30 years old) from hotels and restaurants to compete in skills such as orange carving and cocktail making using a shaker. Representatives from all over the country compete in the college division, and students from the Japan Hotel School, a vocational school, have won prizes for 11 consecutive terms, including seven gold medals to date.

Speech Contest

The speech contest at the Japan Hotel School has two sections: Japanese and English. After the school's preliminary rounds, five students from each section advance to the finals, for a total of ten students. This school event is held in front of guest judges, including general managers of first-class hotels and top executives of industry companies, and allows students to hone their expressive and language skills.

Hotel Business Proficiency Examination (H-ken)

The Hotel Business Proficiency Examination (H-Ken) is a qualification exam adopted by many hotels, and its purpose is to enable candidates to systematically understand basic hotel knowledge and service operations, mainly focusing on accommodation, food and beverage, and banquets, and to be able to engage in customer service work.
The Basic Level 1 exam, which is taken in the second year, is an exam that measures the knowledge required to understand management tasks and engage in basic management tasks as well as customer service work.

Information Test

General Incorporated Foundation Vocational and Career Education Foundation
This test evaluates basic knowledge required to understand the structure of the information society. Basic knowledge of computers and their peripherals, environment settings, and the Internet. It also certifies knowledge of information ethics and information security.

Tourism English Proficiency Test

National Language, Business, Tourism and Education Association Included in tuition fees
The Tourism English Proficiency Test is an exam that certifies English proficiency in the technical terms used in industries such as travel, tourism, hotel and restaurant services, which often have opportunities to deal with visitors from overseas.

TOEIC

Business Communication Association (General Incorporated Foundation) Included in tuition fees
TOEIC is one of the common English proficiency tests in the world, and is often used by companies to assess the abilities of their employees, making it an advantageous test when looking for employment. Students at Japan Hotel School take the test in all subjects.

Universal Manners Test

Japan Universal Manners Association (General Incorporated Association) Included in tuition fees
The Universal Manners Test is designed to equip you with the ability to think about and act on the perspectives of the various types of people who visit a hotel, such as the elderly or people with disabilities, and what kind of problems they may encounter.

Japanese food test

Japan Hotel Education Center General Incorporated Association Included in tuition fees
The purpose of the Washoku Proficiency Test is to learn about washoku, a World Intangible Cultural Heritage, and to acquire the basic knowledge to correctly understand and convey Japanese food culture. It is a qualification test sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Japan Tourism Agency of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

Restaurant Service Skills Examination

Japan Hotel and Restaurant Service Skills Association
The Restaurant Service Skills Examination is a national qualification that certifies knowledge and skills related to food and beverage service. It is a qualification for service personnel who serve Western cuisine to systematically study and improve their knowledge and skills.

Business Ability Test

Vocational and Career Education Foundation
The Business Proficiency Test aims to teach business manners and business skills, and evaluates the ability to work as a member of society. It is a qualification test sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

Chinese Proficiency Test

The Chinese Language Association of Japan
The need for the Chinese Proficiency Test is also growing in the hotel industry to accommodate the roughly 40% of visitors to Japan from Chinese-speaking countries. At Japan Hotel School, a vocational school, we offer Chinese language classes in all courses in the daytime division and encourage students to obtain the Chinese Proficiency Test qualification.
